I was a bit concerned after reading some of the review on this book. I have a new project at work where we plan to use spring integration. I downloaded some examples and tried reading the online spring integration docs. I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I decided to take a chance with this book. I have been a java developer for 15+ years. I have used spring in past projects. The thing I like about the book is that it takes you on a journey through spring integration. I wanted a book that went step by step. It show you the usual way a java programmer would do something, then reveals how to better do I tuning spring integration. Then it keeps going and refines even more. It you are alepready a spring integration guru, then maybe you find the book too fluffy, but I like it. I'm only half way through the book, but I'm sure glad I got it.
I get the concept. Just tell me how to do it.I read the first 4 chapters of this book, and learned virtually nothing about how to implement what I want to do. Mostly high-level conceptual stuff. OK, if you want the overall picture, or a conceptual understanding.Reverting to the Spring Integration reference manual.
it is well structured, and has good details, but not enough details.I had to augment the info from other books/web to satisfy my particular needs...it is definitely a good book for generic "looking around" type of projects. but it does not go into the details enough.One miss particularly is a table or similar where the namespaces are mapped to actual classes... so that if one would need to configure the beans in more details the beans classes would be easier identified... this can be done otherwise obviously, but i would like the book to have this.. after all this is what SI defines.
It is well written. I also like the diagrams. Great introduction to Spring Integration. However, coming from a Spring Framework background one thing that confused me was Spring Integration's relationship to an app server. I think I get it now.
This book covers a lot of the core topics concerning how Spring Integration fulfills common Enterprise Integration Patterns as well as how it integrates with and leverages the strengths of the Spring Framework and Spring Batch. I love it! The book first delves into the logic explaining the approach to scenarios, the pros and cons of following an approach, etc. And then gets hands on during the later sections of the book. It helped me pass the Enterprise Integration Specialist exam which is based on different integration technologies provided by Spring. The books has sufficient content - I never read EIP's bible but was able to cover the topics for the certification without hassle.

I like books that go straight to the points.I downloaded the first chapter two months before the release of this book, and that confirmed the choice to definitely go forward with Spring Integration. Then came the full version of the book, and it was not disappointing! It explains very well all the components of Spring Integration, and put them in context, real-world contexts. The authors succeed at transmitting the material in an interesting manner. Can be used as both as a reference and as cover-to-cover-really-interesting-reading.If you are wondering if you should buy: download the first chapter (free) on Manning, and if you see the value in there, I confirm the rest of the book continues on delivering. If you are a developer or architect that needs to build real-time integrations (or batch processes, yes there's a chapter on integrating Spring Integration with Spring Batch, which help setting up a project in minutes), then that's the way to go.
