Wow! I just got this book today -- so don't compare me to those who have "Worn out their copy"! This work is impressive, encompassing 886 page plus the Index! It IS this man's life's work. It is is interesting to read forwards/prefaces by several family members endorsing Jethro Kloss as they grew up with him. I have shelves filled with "Health Food Books" -- some of which are written just to make a profit -- that is not true of this book. "Back To Eden" has been published by the Kloss family since 1939! Although there are no photos of the Herbs used here, the recipes and applications are far-reaching. How many times do we go to a "family doctor" only to get useless shots to kill all bacteria -- even if what we have is a virus? How many useless and harmful vaccinations do we get for imagined diseases, when what we REALLY have is a lack of HEALTH? I really enjoyed this book's treatment of obesity: It IS simply calories in vs. calories out -- no 'magic' formulas needed -- with just a few recommendations given -- terrific. I've read a few of the Herbs mentioned, and I want to start a Homestead and grow ALL of them! I don't expect my review to get many likes, but I encourage everyone to get this book. A Lifetime's work for less than nine dollars? And you are hesitating? Seriously? Good fortune to you and your Family, and may God Bless each of you!
I have had a couple versions of this book for over 25 years and it has helped me get thru some major illnesses w/o having to go seek medical help. This version was supposed to have come out in '72 but it had a 1974 chart in it. wtf? The earlier years are the best i.e., the older the version the better because the Kloss family was still involved in the publishing whereas now i'm not so sure. The old, old versions which my mother had did not say "seek medical help" so I'm very skeptical about who's publishing this book now.
I was first introduced to this book in the very early '70s by my NATURALIST MOTHER. She was SOOO keenly knowledgeable of the MEDICINAL BENEFITS of many HERBS & SPICES that most people either take for granted, not realizing they're MORE THAN JUST SEASONINGS, or totally disregard as having any higher health benefits. This is the ORIGINAL "BIBLE" OF HERBS, a must have if you're serious about natural healing.
I treasure this book so much I wanted it on my phone, but it doesnt work well as a kindle. You cant use the index because the page numbers dont apply like the paper back. This book is over 900 pages long so it taked forever to find what you are looking for. If the publisher worked on making the index clickable and made a more indepth clickable table of contents this ebook would be indispensable.
One of the most informative books on natural healing and health. I've owned the paperback for over 15yrs and unfortunately it was destroyed. If your looking for an alternative to the poisons that pharmaceutical companies are passing off as cures then this is the way to go. Using this as a foundation and take a few naturalists courses and your in your way to a healthier you and can stop putting pharmaceuticals in your body with all the dangerous and sometimes fatal side effects. Start living and healing yourself the way God intended
Because I just received this book a few days ago, I've only had a chance to read a few pages. So far, it is quite captivating and therefore, makes me want to read it more. I ordered this book on a high recommendation from someone who eats natural foods and uses herbal remedies. She basically said, if you need any book about eating and healing naturally, you have to get this one. Because I am new to learning about herbal remedies, I knew I had to order this because I see that it's contents are working for someone I know. It is a very thick book so, I definitely feel like I will get plenty of information from it. The writer seems to be very passionate about herbal medicine and natural foods as everyday necessities. I am looking forward to reading this book from beginning to end and soaking in as much information as I can through this source because I know it will be beneficial for myself, as well as my family. The only negative to mention about this book, and the reason I'm rating it with 4 stars instead of 5, is that the print (font) is extremely small. If the font were larger, it would be the perfect read.
This #2 Back to Eden book is perfect. I have the blue thick copy and this one is the Orange copy. I copied the. ID# from the one associated with the Orange likeness listed in Amazon as ISBN-13: 978-0912800011, ISBN-10: 0912800011. This book mentions the benefits of Charcoal, which I know I had seen in one of the books I gave away. Now I ordered a backup and I like the Orange cover better and will give up neither.
Jethro Kloss passed away a long time ago but to this day, I have not found any other author who could make so much knowledge so accessible, so much fun to read and so concise as Kloss did. I bought my first copy of this engrossing reference when still in childhood and from that day on it has never let me down when I was most in need. Good common sense and a lifetime of experience are the foundations in this book, written in plain English for all reading levels and thorough discussion of easily-obtainable natural remedies.This revised edition is the least intrusive of all the revised versions I've seen. I prefer the original text because anything somebody else could add to it is superfluous and even confusing to new readers but at least in this one, it doesn't get buried in all the additions. Jethro Kloss is timeless, rather like Nature is, and there's nothing to add today that could improve one bit on what he taught us all.
